Then we’d love to hear your frightening ideas. OddMadland publishes thoroughly researched, deeply experimental narrative fiction about speculative people, places, and ideas. Stories should range from 2,500 to 8,000 words.
We feel that the beginning and the end of our stories are the most integral parts of our narrative structure – the middle is everywhere and does not need to become a wasteland of unbridgeable gaps. Keep it short and keep it sour.
What’s Your Story?
We are looking for storytellers that have an awareness of the magical realism of everyday life. Shortform speculative fiction is a vast genre, full of diverse sub-groupings grounded in transgressive theory-fiction, horror and sci-fi . If your story suggests another world, we are here to be the world-builders of your mythos.
So as much as possible, let us know:
- Do you write and/or design?
- What is your odd philosophy, and how do you communicate it?
- What is the narrative arc of your story?
- What are some of the key scenes you can describe?
- Who is your audience and why are they interested in reading your work?
- What will make for compelling storytelling?
What’s Your Style?
We’re not looking for conventional writing, but we do want to publish writers whose prose style is progressive, engaging, and evocative. Craft your pitch accordingly.
Explain why OddMadland is the right place for your story, and why you’re the person to write it. And, of course, include a couple of your best previous works, regardless of subject matter.
